§ 14-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Cemetery means town owned cemeteries, singly or together.

    Deed or certificate means a document of conveyance of burial space for human remains to the original proprietor or his designee.

    Grave means an area containing or intended to contain interments of human remains.

    Interment means the disposition of human remains by entombment or burial.

    Lot means a specified bounded area intended for the interment of human remains. The term "lot," "plot" or "burial space" shall be used interchangeably.

    Marker means the individual's name marker at each grave site.

    Memorial marker means any fraternal organization or military marker.

    Monument means the family name monument.

    Sexton means the person or designee of persons duly appointed by the town manager to manage and oversee cemetery operations.

    Town manager means the town manager duly appointed by the board of selectmen, or his authorized agent.
